Good Kid? Exhibition

April 7th, 2015

Some images from Good Kid? Exhibition (นิทรรศการเพราะเป็นเด็กจึงเจ็บปวด) that was on display at the 43rd Bangkok National Book Fair between March 26 – April 6, 2015. This exhibition circles around the idea about what it means to be a good kid. Rather than attempting to suggest a solution, the exhibition hopes to provoke conversations regarding the traditional way kids in Thai society are being treated by grown-ups.

The exhibition consists of three main exhibits:

The Main Display
This area includes selected texts and excerpts from Thai and international literatures curated by Mr.Suchart Sawasdsri, Thailand’s National Artist Laureate. The texts are divided into three zones, which are family & school, self, and society, representing three influential facets that take part in the growth of an individual.

The Wall of National Children’s Day Mottos
Traditionally, in Thailand, a national children’s day motto is given by the prime minister annually on Children’s Day to reflect his/her vision for Thai children in that year. All mottos starting from 2499 B.E. (1956) to 2558 B.E. (2015) are digitally carved on wooden boards and mounted continuously on the long wall in the exhibition.

The Mural of Expression
The mural is a social experiment on freedom of expression particularly during this period in our history. It leaves three questions with blank spaces to be filled in. The questions are:
A good kid is …………………
A good adult is …………………
A good society is …………………
